stereotypes exist for a reason

It takes a while to get used to sanding a plaster waste mold while standing less than twenty feet away from a nude black guy reclining on a blanket in the middle of the studio...today was the best day yet at Cherry Lion - mainly b/c I didn't have to grind any fiberglass casts, got to do some finesse work, and was able to talk to Kevin and Shem most of the day. I'm going to push to have at least one dog at every job that I work in the future. I finally got to meet my fellow SEP writers, as well as my 3rd editor, at Savage tonight - they all seemed like cool, unique folks. Free pizza and 420 is always nice as well, but I guess that's quite a deal being that's all the payment that we receive for our work all year. Eh, it's a good experience and has some decent perks every once in a while. It's just cool to be able to say that you write for a music magazine, regardless of the fact that you don't get paid and it's distributed for free. It's been nice ...

turn a corner

My Dad called me tonight - he sounded more positive and hopeful than he has in years. Lately he's taken some fairly significant steps towards getting back to where he needs to be. I really hope that he'll get things turned around for good this time, it's def. been way too long [for all of us]. It feels really good to see someone finally take the initial steps that you've been urging them towards for so long. I feel like a huge weight has been taken off of my shoulders - the kind that I'd grown accustomed to carrying to the point that it just seemed normal. Hopefully we can all do our part to make sure that he continues to build upon this small [yet encouraging] base that Dad's built for himself. [ let's go dad ] Nice m-day: got some hard intervals in at Grady - even got complimented on my speed by some black track dudes, had lunch & went to the jazz fest @ piedmont w/ Ashley [I love Atlanta], got a decent amount of rock corps promo done for cornerst...

like a baby's bottom

Great weekend in C-town. The all star race is def. my kind of nascar event - short and fun. Ha, sitting in the air-conditioned box seats and eating/drinking on someone else's tab also makes it more enjoyable. Single-handedly turning open mic night into karaoke Friday night is pretty ridiculous - I'm not sure what's up w/ my drunken singing infatuation lately. It's just awesome to be home and eat really well for a few days and relax w/ your family. I finally shaved as well. It feels so weird and makes me look at least five years younger. [ the experiment [part one at least] is over ]

'new' plan - 1

I've always been a fan of the one long run per week + cross-training schedule...esp. after my injury and the new research that's been coming out. It keeps it interesting and helps you work different parts of your body + running 'repertoire' while keeping the mileage [injuries] down. I'll start out w/ the half-marathon training plan since I've dropped off recently and shoot for a full marathon in December - I'll just skip weeks so that my long run is increasing a mile/week until I begin the full marathon program. 5.15 - Day 1:1 - frees 1.5 mile warm up 6 x [400 + 2 stadium steps sprints] 400 sprint + 100 sprint - just for fun/speed 1.5 mile cool down [it's all about intensity] 5.17 - Day 1:2 - asics 2 miles easy 3 miles @ short tempo pace [I'm going to assume that 'short tempo' means race pace] 6.33 12.57 19.45 - hard & fast 1 mile easy 5.20 - Day 1:3 - asics 8 miles - nice route through inman park - l5p - edgewood - cabbagetown - downto...

Q - What does it take to chase two judges and me away from [or at least rush us through] $2 22 oz. shinerbocks and half price mushroom & swiss veggie burgers? A - An overly aggressive waiter/manager, horrible 'too cheesy to be ironic' 80's music, and a well-timed 'closing time' ala semisonic. - i love grandma & family -

waa waa

I know they say that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger - and I'm a definite believer in that...but I think I'm strong enough at this point. - a break would be nice I don't think that the duct tape is working...
