what a weekend -
The eagles of death metal & peaches show thurs. night was a blast. Good times w/ all the guys. EODM were absolutely great, spoof-rock at it's best, sucks they didn't get a longer set. Peaches was good, even better than I thought she'd be. I didn't mind having to stick around to watch her set after the rest of the guys left. What a bill: I've never seen a crowd go from hardcore rock 'n roll to lesbian/metrosexual so fast. 97 estoria after the show was nice, although possibly a bit unnecessary. Our waitress, the 'morton salt girl', was the cutest/youngest looking 30-year old I've ever seen.
Friday night brought Leo & Heather's wedding rehearsal and dinner. It was nice hanging out w/ everyone together again, even if these times are only going to get more sporadic as we all 'grow up'. The haiku that we prepared for Eric to say at dinner was great [& also a tradition that I am going to make sure to continue w/ any future wedding]. The ipod shuffle's that Heather gave her bridesmaids were nice, but I'll take the grilling sets that the groomsmen got simply b/c they are stainless steel & can also be employed as a means of self-defense as well.
The wedding saturday was beautiful, of course. I love seeing that kind of stuff, I thought Leo was going to lose it as soon as Heather began walking down the aisle...but he held it together well. We all performed our duties during the service perfectly & I can definitely count myself as a master of the reverse fig leaf after the ceremony. The poem & t-shirt never quite came together for the reception, but hopefully we can get something together soon. That'd be another really cool tradition for future weddings, just a bit much on such short notice this time around.
The reception was nice, open bars always help loosen everything/one up. We all had a good time, it was a blast watching Heather on the dance floor all night long. Like I've said, I just love getting everyone back together, even for a short time, and being able to hang out and talk. I love how some things never change.
I also found out that my best & oldest friend is going to be having a kid. I am super-psyched about this for some reason. Between the wedding and news of the pregnancy, I've been thinking about all kinds of growing up/getting married/having a family stuff. I can't wait for all of the challenges & joys that that will bring. Leo & Heather looked so happy. It was also great to see Eric's parents acting like they were newlyweds - that's what it's all about.
Today was the ultimate finale [at least until the '1st Annual Rock 'n Roll Road Trip' kicks off Tuesday] - skydiving, yep...skydiving.
This is seriously the most fun/exhilarating/surreal experience of my life. I don't think that anything can compare to the feeling of dangling over the side of an airplane door at 14,500 ft, doing several backflips for the first few hundred feet, freefalling at 210 mph for over a minute, free-falling under an open canopy for 7-8 minutes [while doing dozens of high-g spins], and ending with a slide-in landing back w/n view of your friends. It was absolutely unbelievable, indescribable. The sense of awe that you get while freefalling and then floating down from so high above it all [and at sunset, just to make it that much better] is the ultimate high. I'm glad that BG & I got to go last, it was really cool seeing everyone else floating down. I can't wait to see the pictures of everyone. So yeah - skydiving? I highly recommend it.

As if that wasn't enough for one of the most amazing, influential weekends of my life - I capped it all off with a kickin' chicken sandwich at the best restaurant in the world. I'm sure it would've tasted great regardless, but it was especially delicious as a celebration of everything that happened this weekend combined w/ my living this month as a pescatarian. With regards to that, I think I will continue to be a pescatarian, I'll just eat chicken every once in a while: if it doesn't fly or swim I won't mess with it.
This is what life is about - what's next?
bonus: pearl jam got their band name from a homemade jam that eddie vedder's grandmother used to make that contained amounts of peyote
