that's just not right

just a few thoughts: - I don't recommend salmon in a can. While most people would never even question buying this, I am not most people. It's really freaky, it's like they just stuffed an entire salmon into a can: meat, skin, bones...everything. I grilled some of it and made two sandwiches, we'll see how that works out for me. - I got two nice shirts from Goodwill today. One was Geoffrey Beene and one was Britches of Georgetown. I think those are pretty fancy labels. I love thrift stores, it's just a nice little challenge/victory. - I finally heard from my editor, so the show reviews are back on. Up next, Andrew Bird at Eyedrum on the 11th and the Fiery Furnaces at Smith's [!] on the 22nd. The Hold Steady would be a badass show this Saturday, but I'll be enjoying the Thrashers and the debauchery of the Clairmont Lounge in the name of Sam's birthday. We're going to have a monster crew that night. [ you should be listening to okkervil river ]

leaves do fall

Last night was fun: we got quite a crew together and checked out the spotted dog on north ave. It's a nice place, it'll be even nicer in two weeks when I live two blocks away. We had quite a crew there, I'm wishing I would've had about two or three less drinks, Wes just keeps buying those shots... Football today definitely suffered as a result of our activities last night, none of us could really get it together. I hate it when you can't play as well as you know you're capable of. Oh well, we'll do it again in a few days. Hung over football is not that great an idea. Now it's time to shower, get some groceries, and recover. I've gotta design some flash ads and billboards too, so I've got that going for me.

snap snap

The gt crew romped all over the state guys in a couple of friendly football games last night. I hope that kind of stuff never ends. - I just saw Steve-o drink a cup of chew spit - tennessee fainting goats are really cool [guess what they do] I bet I'd be an excellent goatsman... six

you can grow shitaki there

The homeless census went well. We had a lot more help this year than last. My group had the grant park area, it was pretty cool walking around the park at one in the morning. I have so much respect for anyone that does social work, especially when they get a masters, so many sacrifices on so many levels. It is def. one of the most fulfilling jobs on the planet though. But yeah, we only found three homeless people [ha, it's like we all wanted it to be more or something], but we did find this homeless 'campsite' right off of I-20 in some trees/bushes. It was crazy to see something like that: like ten pairs of shoes hanging from a tree, garbage bags full of aluminum cans, shopping carts, little cleared out spots where they had layed whatever they could find to sleep on. I guess it's just a group of them trying to stick together, hopefully it's not an entire family Last night I went w/ Josh to Rehab's recording studio near Athens. It was a really nice studio...

middle of nowhere

- yesterday was a very manly day: bowling w/ bg & jb, then watching football, drinking whiskey, and playing poker for the remainder of the day. I need a good cry - I just got done checking out the new rusan's in edgewood w/ beth. Buffets are good. Now it looks like a little job searching, bowling w/ bg, sweetwater at 420, dart match [ha] at 8, and meeting up to help out w/ the homeless census at 1030. It lasted until like 4a last year, so it looks like I'm in for a long night of driving around east atlanta in the rain looking for lost souls. It really makes you think about & appreciate how much we all have... And I get to hang out w/ other homeless people, which is always interesting. four

dirty souf

I'm growing tired of the long play by play-type blog [and some food and a nap before this evening's festivities sounds nice], let's try something different. With the quickness [or quickerness]: - thursday's dbt show at the 40 watt rocked . over three hours of passionate songs about whiskey, women, and being from the south . rocked - last night was bowling with the crew . i passed the line where beer stops helping your game and starts making you suck about half an hour before we got to the bowling alley . fun for all - tonight on the way home from work I saw: a] a man waiting at the intersection w/ his child, whose too-large pants had fallen to his ankles . apparently the father did not notice this & b] a guy riding a bike down flat shoals w/ a 12 pack of old milwaukee bungie-corded to the bottom of his seat - the new issue of spin is pretty much the best, most consistently good issue I've ever held in my hands [i've only browsed through it backwards but i...

we both go down together

Just got back from the independent. It was cool, Croyle's birthday 'pool' party...that was a freebie, folks. I'm glad Jessica called, she's a good friend: very dependable. Group tabs are messy and not a wise choice - fyi - Ha, myspace is pretty interesting. You can find people on there that you never thought you would talk to again. It's that new, new facebook. First blogs, then facebook, now myspace...where will it end? I don't really have much to say tonight. I am selling my old turbografx on ebay ::::::::::: You can look at it there. Apparently it's worth some money or something. I'm probably the only one amused by this. Oh, and Joe had a girl come look at my room tonight. Well she got here at nine and I get back from the independent...and she's still here. I even told him how you can't mess w/ someone that you live with. Not a good situation [I wouldn't know by experience, just intuition]. Ha, I guess he's just goin...

there's nothing wrong w/ love

Not a bad weekend. Friday night was a Thrashers game and then drinking at the top of the Westin w/ jb, bg, and stuart. The game was cool, they're actually playing really well right now and we snuck down to seats a row behind the glass for the third period. The Westin was cool: sweetwater, fruit, and cheese while looking out at an awesome, rotating view of the city. We had to be the only people making under 50 grand a year in the place. Good times. Saturday was tons of kids at work, football games, and the local w/ my old crew for lindsay's birthday. I love that place - a laid back crowd, foosball, good bar video games, and indie rock...about as good as it gets. We packed into the Majestic for food at 3 in the morning following the bar. That place is always interesting. That could be due to the fact that I only go there early in the morning when every customer in the place is wasted. Sunday was football with the guys again [fourth game in eight days]. It was alright, nothing spe...

whataday

Quite a day here in East Atlantaland. Katy left for five months in NYC this morning. That's going to affect me a lot more than I allowed myself to believe. It's all worked out pretty well though. She's a pretty amazing girl. Now for the total testosterone-infused event that only I would care so much about - And we got into the most epic game of football that I have ever played in tonight after work: six v. six, full field, two hours nonstop, just unbelievable how much everyone gave. I just love that, when you get a bunch of guys out there and everyone just busts their ass for twice as long as they feel like they can. Both teams made some huge plays, the gt crew had our chances but came up just short. It was awesome though, you should've seen it. That's the third football game this week and I felt like an old man after the first two...tomorrow is going to be ridiculous. I've gotta just get this off my mind a bit though: I have a pretty good temper, especially whe...

b/c i said so

Alright, not a very eventful day. I've been listening and thinking about music a lot as usual and figured I'd try to throw down a list of my top five/ten/twenty/whatever albums of 2005. Oh, listerine is almost amazing [the searing flesh means it's working] Hopefully this won't take too long... Alright, I've been thinking about it for a while and I'm going to go w/ ten [and some late entries] b/c five is too tough and twenty is a bit too easy and doesn't take any balls. I think it's going to come down to which ones I have spent enough time with because I've just heard about a lot of great albums in other year end lists. In other words, this could easily change a few weeks down the line as I get more into some of the most recent stuff [it's been a long year]. One more thing, there are many different ways to approach year end lists. I am going to approach this one as 'the ten albums of 2005 that I would want if I could only have ten' so I...

this is our year

Happy New Year and all that. Just got done watching bama kick a last second field goal to win the cotton bowl, it's gonna be a good day. New years eve was fun, just hanging out w/ everyone at james studio apt. downtown, drinking some red, hugging a bunch of folks at the peach drop [friends and otherwise], and eating pizza and tater tots at 3-5 in the morning. It's such a cool holiday, how everyone gets together in huge, drunken crowds and celebrates and is happy. It doesn't matter where you come from or what you are, it's your time to make a fresh start. Now I'm back in my city and starting to get settled back into the groove. Today brings job hunting, reading, working out, sorting through childhood belongings returned, and hopefully hanging out and watching the sugar bowl tonight [go WV]. What memories will you keep?
